The International Social Science Summer School in Ukraine was launched in 2009 by a multi-disciplinary team wishing to create a space of exchange and networking for young scholars in the area of Soviet and post Soviet studies. The school is interdisciplinary, non-hierarchic and follows a workshop format with roundtables, field visits, local interviews and excursions within the region. Participants contribute actively to discussions. These off-site activities contribute to seminar discussions.
The school takes place in a different city of Ukraine every year: Uman (2009), Dnipropetrovsk (2010), Ostroh (2011), Zhytomyr (2012), Mykolaiv (2013), Lviv (2014) and Chernivtsy (2015).
The Summer School is open to PhD students (or students enrolled in a kandidat nauk program) and young researchers (up to six years removed from their PhD or kandidat nauk degree). The working language is English. There is no program fee.
The project success was made possible through the unfailing support of our leading partners: the Wolodymyr George Danyliw Foundation and the Embassy of France in Ukraine.
